The Houston Dynamo haven't exactly been big players in the Designated Player market. While Thursday's signing of Honduran international Oscar Boniek Garcia won't make a huge impact on the ticket sales, it is a sign that they are willing to spend some money.

The right-sided midfielder is not a glamorous signing, but the Dynamo apparently paid for a full transfer. Still, he'll only hit the salary budget at $175,000 as he'll be a midseason signing and not be eligible to play until after June 27.

"Oscar is a good player and I have always liked him," Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear said in a statement. "He is a versatile midfielder and a good athlete and should do well for us. He is a good signing for us and the league."

Garcia is more of a playmaker than a scorer, but should help provide some balance to the Dynamo attack. The Dynamo are currently very left-side oriented, with much of the offense running through Brad Davis. The right side has been a bit of a revolving door at midfield, with three players receiving at least three starts.

For more on the signing, be sure to check out Dynamo Theory.

Chelsea and Manchester City have been put on red alert after reports suggest Real Madrid are ready to offload Kaka.

After a much anticipated £58 million arrival from AC Milan in the summer of 2009, Kaka's time at the Santiago Bernabeu has since been blighted by injury and poor form, and he has largely been overshadowed by team mate Cristiano Ronaldo, who joined Kaka at Real in the same transfer window and broke his record transfer fee within a matter of weeks.

Kaka has recently returned from his latest injury layoff, which kept him on the sidelines for eight months at the start of 2011, and was optimistic about regaining his place in the Real Madrid lineup.

However, with the La Liga giants extremely active in strengthening their squad last summer, Kaka's is now facing stiff competition from Mesut Ozil and Angel Di Maria for an attacking berth in Jose Mourinho's squad.

With Ozil and Di Maria both enjoying impressive first seasons at the club, the Daily Mail has reported that the Portuguese could be ready to sell Kaka.

This news will be of particular interest to Barclays Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester City, both of whom are backed with rich owners who are willing to splash the cash to achieve their ambitions.

While Chelsea only recently signed Spanish World Cup winner Fernando Torres for £50 million in January, both Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka are the wrong side of 30.

For a team who have struggled to compete in the Premier League this season, with whispers that their ageing team can no longer compete with the other big clubs, manager Roman Abramovich will be eager to bring the Brazilian maestro to Stamford Bridge to rejuvenate his ailing team.

Kaka may be tempted to join Chelsea and link up with his one-time mentor Carlo Ancelotti, who managed him at Milan, but Ancelotti's future at Stamford Bridge is far from certain after a disappointing league campaign this season.

On the other hand, while Kaka has rejected City's advances in the past due to his refusal to join a side not competing in Europe, the club are currently sitting comfortably in third place in the Premier League standings, and with qualification for next season's UEFA Champions League a distinct possibility, Kaka could now be open to a move to the City of Manchester Stadium.

Despite his recent troubles, Kaka is still one of the most highly regarded players in the game, having won the Champions League with Milan, the 2002 World Cup, as well as being awarded the Ballon d'Or and FIFA World Player of the Year awards in 2007.

Italy captain Gianluigi Buffon has claimed he would have been "carted off" if he suggested he could lead his country to European Championship glory before they reached the quarter-finals.

But the goalkeeper has now boldly declared them contenders for the title ahead of Sunday's quarter-final showdown with England. Italy have failed to kick on from winning the World Cup in 2006, getting knocked out of Euro 2008 in the last eight and not even qualifying for the knockout stage of the 2010 World Cup.

With Spain and Germany still in Euro 2012, Italy remain very much dark horses in many people's eyes. Buffon said: "I have never said that we will win the tournament because, if I had said that, I might have been carted off."

Copyright (c) PA Sport 2012, All Rights Reserved.

Luis Fabiano scored a hat-trick as Sevilla progressed to the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey with a 4-0 win.

The Brazilian scored just before the half-hour mark and twice more after the break to see off the challenge of the third division side, who led 1-0 from the first leg.

Enzo Maresca completed an emphatic victory in stoppage time.

In the night's other tie, Walter Pandiani struck the only goal as Osasuna advanced with a 1-0 win at home to Getafe.

Getafe were beaten finalists in each of the past two seasons, but Pandiani's 32nd-minute goal was enough to knock them out after the opening leg finished goalless.

Has Harry Redknapp managed to unearth the Darren Bent we all saw score so frequently at Charlton Athletic?

Five goals in the last two games may have confirmed that. His stunning hat trick against Dinamo Zagreb in the Uefa Cup was one of pure goal scoring pedigree. He was able to justify himself as a worthy ??16.5 million pound man by scoring with three top-notch finishes. Plus, a useful brace against super rich Manchester City, condemning them to a 2-1 defeat, placed a reminder to those critics and pundits who was against him that Darren Bent is back and firing on all cylinders.

His time at Tottenham Hotspur so far, has been somewhat subdued but under the famous Arry he is lavishing playing decent football once again.

Before Bent was completely overshadowed by fellow strikers Dimitar Berbatov, Robbie Keane, and Jermaine Defoe and their moves to Manchester United, Liverpool, and Portsmouth respectively materialised to find him the only one left. Now Bent finds himself pinnacle in the set up and with that his confidence starting to soar.

He stood up and answered what was asked of him. He scored 11 goals so far this season, and from his pre-season exploits this should not come as much surprise.

With Tottenham as a team playing awful and having their worst start ever to a League season, Bent faded. Juande Ramos seemed to pay little faith in him, he often found himself on the bench looking wary.

Redknapp came ruthlessly in, changed the team fortunes, and played Bent up front with Luka Modric supporting. With that, the goals have been pouring in. The ex-Portsmouth manager must have the expertise in dealing with players like Bent. Whether it is putting an arm around his shoulder or a kicking him up the backside, Redknapp must be doing something right.

New Russian signing Roman Paulyuchenko have found himself playing sparingly as Bent has been given the starting berth and grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

Fabio Capello must be encouraged to see a gifted natural goal scorer finding his feet once again. Whilst Capello feeling his attacking options for England remain rather limited, Bent recent performances have certainly been eye catching and provided the England manager with something to think about.

His goal against Arsenal at Emirates Stadium showed his eye for goal, he pounced on a ball that Manuel Almunia had spilt and finished it superbly. He was on the ball like a flash and he reacted faster than any of the poor Arsenal defence did.

Bent has the ability to frighten any defender; his strength and pace is an asset to any team. Like many other strikers his form resembles his confidence. When he has it, he looks unerring but without it, he looks like Humpty Dumpty.

Surely, the Redknapp factor cannot play that much of a difference; the then, manger of Charlton Alan Pardew managed to get Bents confidence roaring, even though his goals did not managed to keep the Addicks safe.

At Charlton, he did not have the quality players around him like; he does in a Spurs shirt. Players like David Bentley, Luka Modric, Aaron Lennon, and Gareth Bale all supplying him with great opportunities and genuine goal scoring threats.

Bent would be undoubtedly be grateful, as Tottenhams revival looks very much in action and he will need to continue this scoring streak if he is too fire his team up the table.

The second coming of Florentino Perez should not be judged on what big name stars he brings to the Santiago Bernabeu. His ability to attract the world??s best has never been an issue of debate. Neither has his ability to generate capital for the club. Rather, any lessons the man claims to have learnt since departing the Bernabeu in disgrace back in 2006 should be judged on how he treats the less famous, yet equally important, members of the squad. I am speaking here of two players in particular Lassana Diarra and Gonzalo Higuain.

Rewind to 2003 and the sale of Claude Makelele to Chelsea after Perezs refusal to grant the player a pay raise in line with his obvious importance to the team. ??We will not miss Makelele?? boomed Perez. They did. ??Younger players will arrive who will cause Makelele to be forgotten.??? They didn??t. The departure of the five foot seven French defensive midfielder was considered by many as the beginning of the end for Perez and his first Galacticos project.

Fast forward to 2009. Perez is back. So are the Galacticos. So is the five foot seven French defensive midfielder. Only this time his name isn??t Claude, it??s Lassana. Lassana Diarra. Since his arrival from Portsmouth in January of this year, ??Lass?? has established himself as a vital member of the Real Madrid team. His aggressive tackling, tireless running and intelligent all-round play have made him a squad, and fan, favourite. He is the new Makelele.

Two and a half years ago Gonzalo Higuain arrived from River Plate for a cool 13 million euros. He??s taken his time settling in to life at the Bernabeu, but it now seems to have been worth the wait. Last season he finished top scorer with 22 goals. He was also the top assist man with nine. Some of his goals were vital, too. Two stunning winners which immediately come to mind were his screamer at the death against Getafe at the Bernabeu and his tremendous solo effort away at Malaga. The France born Argentine now looks as if he will only get better and better.

Despite all his progress, his position at the club is once again under threat. Persistent rumors of a player plus cash deal involving Internazionale??s Zlatan Ibrahimovic, coupled with Perez??s pursuit of a striker of similar style, in the form of Valencia??s David Villa, have thrown El Pipito??s Madrid future into doubt.

To sell the youngster at this point in his career would be a huge mistake on the part of the new regime. He may not be as refined or consistent as Villa or Ibra, but let??s remember that he spent much of last season, indeed much of his Madrid career to date, playing out of position, on the right wing. If anything, this makes his numbers all the more impressive. A switch to a preferred central striking role next season would surely see his goal tally rise. Let??s also not forget that he??s still only 21. In him, I feel that Madrid have found the new Raul.

Florentino Perez needs to demonstrate that he has learnt the lessons from his first stint as Real Madrid President. He needs to show he has learnt that buying the worlds best players does not guarantee on-field success. Instead, it is the manner in which he treats those around his Galacticos which can make the difference. In my opinion, Lassana Diarra and Gonzalo Higuain represent his best chances at redemption. It could well be how he treats these two unsung heroes of the Madrid team that determines the success of his second tenure at the Bernabeu. Time will tell if hes indeed a changed man.

Chelsea face a trip to Wigan Athletic in their opening fixture of the 2012/13 Premier League season.

It will be Roberto di Matteo’s first competitive game in charge of the Blues as permanent manager after his appointment was confirmed last week.

Chelsea’s second fixture will be at Stamford Bridge and the visitors Newcastle United, who were 2-0 victors there last season and ended any chance of a top four finish for Roman Abramovich’s club in the process.

September 1 was scheduled to be a home tie with newly promoted Reading, but the Blues’ participation in the UEFA Super Cup mean it will have to be rearranged.

An appearance in the FIFA World Club Cup will mean the mid-December fixture against another newly promoted side, Southampton, is also moved to an alternative date.

Di Matteo had a successful end to last season, winning both the FA Cup and Champions League, but this year he will be charged with taking the club back into the top four.

Trips to Arsenal and QPR are the standout fixtures from September, while the period over October and November sees them take on Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane before welcoming Manchester United, Liverpool and champions Manchester City in the space of six fixtures.

The busy Christmas and New Year period could have been worse, but visits to Norwich City on Boxing Day and Everton three days later, before the return meeting with QPR on New Year’s Day, will provide a physical test in a tiring part of the year.

The final day of the season is a home tie with Everton, but the last six games for Chelsea take in trips to both Liverpool and Manchester United after the home clash against Spurs.

Jose Ortiz ensured Juan Manuel Lillo's Almeria tenure got off to a winning start with a last-gasp winner against Xerez.

However, the home side's lacklustre performance means there is still plenty of hard work ahead for the new coach.

Lillo may take some of the credit, having summoned Ortiz from the bench just six minutes before he stroked home the only goal of the game, but the visitors will feel rightly aggrieved not to have added to their meagre seven-point total this season.

Xerez came into the game rooted to the bottom of the table and on the back of four successive defeats but almost claimed a fifth draw of the season as the home team laboured.

There were a handful of half-chances from both sides prior to Ortiz's intervention but neither of the relegation strugglers did enough to warrant maximum points.

Lillo, handed the reins at the Estadio de los Juegos Mediterraneos just prior to Christmas following the dismissal of Hugo Sanchez, will have been concerned by Almeria's slow start.

The hosts struggled to get hold of the ball for much of the opening 20 minutes and may even have gone behind as Xerez, who have found the net just six times all term, grew in confidence.

Abel Gomez was their liveliest player in the initial exchanges and twice unleashed from the edge of the penalty area.

The first flew wide of Diego Alves' goal but the second, moments later, drew a save from the Brazilian goalkeeper.

Gomez then turned creator, landing a free-kick on the head of Figueroa Momo, only for his effort to miss the target.

Lillo's new charges continued to play a disjointed game, Jose Chico not helping matters with a needless caution for handball after half an hour.

They began to get a foothold as time wore on, though, with Hernan Bernardello and Miguel Angel Corona both taking aim on the Xerez goal before half-time.

Domingo Cisma's strong effort two minutes after the restart, well saved by Brito Renan, ensured the home team carried that momentum into the second half.

Renan also did well to intercept Fernando Soriano's teasing cross in the 66th minute.

Xerez started to produce a little more going forward but Almeria slowed the pace with a series of fouls.

Then, with seven minutes remaining, Lillo played his final card, replacing Albert Crusat with Ortiz.

The effect was not quite immediate - Mario Bermejo could have given the division's bottom side the lead when he found space inside the area after 85 minutes - but it was decisive.

Jose Manuel Casado was responsible for a foul that allowed Almeria a free-kick in a good position, and although Cisma's delivery was met at first by Galvez David Prieto, the ball eventually broke to Ortiz.

He collected the ball 20 yards out and sent a low shot into the bottom corner for his first goal of the campaign and his side's first win in seven matches.

Anyone who thought La Liga was over has been proved wrong again. Every week it gets more and more crazy as Real Madrid and Barcelona try to outdo each other to see who can waste most chances. This week Bar?a did not play well but 17-year-old Bojan Krkic scored twice as they beat Valladolid 4-1, while Madrid played well going forward but paid the price for defensive mistakes, losing 2-3 at home to Ronald Koemans Valencia.

Real Madrid who will be without the injured Ruud Van Nistlerooy for another month, started with Raul on his own up front supported by Sneijder, Baptista and Robinho. Madrid created the better early chances but Valencia took the lead when Sneijder lost the ball to Silva who sent a short vertical pass through to David Villa who beat Casillas for the opening goal after 33 minutes. Madrid took just two minutes to draw level when Raul got behind Helguera to head home Marcelos cross from the left.

Ten minutes into the second half Guti got away from two opponents before sending Raul through to beat Hildebrand with a low shot that went in off the post. Guti and Sergio Ramos had chances to extend Madrids lead but then after 65 minutes Cannavaro gave away a pointless penalty on Silva, and Villa sent Casillas the wrong way to equalize. In the last fifteen minutes it seemed as if Valencia had run out of steam as Madrid went looking for the winner. Sneijder and Higuain, twice, had great chances to win it for Madrid, but then in the 88th minute Arizmendi got away from Marcelo on the right before skipping past Cannavaros sliding challenge and fooling Casillas at his near post when the Madrid goalkeeper was expecting a cross. There was still time for Raul to force a fine save from Hildebrand but Valencia held on to end a fantastic week after they had beaten Bar?a on Thursday to reach the Copa del Rey final where they will meet Getafe on April 16.

Bar?a moved to within four points of the leaders with a comfortable win over strugglers Valladolid. Samuel Etoo scored his eleventh of the season with a side-foot volley from Bojans cross in the 23rd minute, but Valladolid equalized when the referee mistakenly judged Thuram to have fouled Llorente and Sesma sent Vald??s the wrong way from the penalty. Bar?a then performed nervously until the 47th minute when Iniesta rounded the keeper to restore Bar?as lead. Bojan made the most of the linesmans failure to see that Puyol was offside in the third goal, and then when Valladolid were attacking most Etoo broke down the right before setting up Bojan with a simple far-post tap-in. Bojan now has seven goals to his name and is well on the way to becoming the next major idol at Camp Nou. Click here for a full report on Barcelona-Valladolid.

If the top two continue to stutter there could still be a chance for third place Villarreal who are now only six points behind Madrid. They were slow to get into their game against bottom team Levante who hit the post and had a goal disallowed in the first fifteen minutes. However, Villarreal woke up and Matias Fernandez gave them the lead just before the half hour, but Levante equalized after 64 minutes through Miguel Angel, and Villarreal had to wait until seven minutes from time for substitute Guille Franco to make it 1-2 at the end.

Fourth place Atletico Madrid took a giant step towards next seasons Champions League by winning 1-2 at Sevilla. Kun Ag??ero and Simao gave Sevillas full backs plenty of problems, and after 18 minutes they combined to set up Maxi Rodriguez to score with a fine strike. Capel equalized for Sevilla early in the second half, but Ag??ero restored Atleticos lead after 57 minutes. Sevillas Maresca was sent off soon after which basically ended any chance Sevilla had to get back in the match. Sevilla drop to sixth in the table, five points behind Atletico.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the weekend came at Murcia where the home team hammered Espanyol 4-0. Before the game Murcia had taken just one point from the last eleven games and were looking to be relegation certainties. New coach Javier Clemente put in 17-year-old Dani Aquino who performed excellently on the left wing, and the tactic of sending long balls up to Ivan Alonso caused the Espanyol defence plenty of problems. After 35 minutes Alonso won a penalty hich he converted himself and five minutes later he headed in a second. Second half goals from Abel and Richi completed Espanyols misery and offered a glimmer of hope to Murcias fight against the drop.

Racing Santander move above Sevilla and Espanyol into fifth position after seeing off a stubborn Recreativo with two late goals. Recreativo gave as good as they got until the sending off of Caceres after 64 minutes. With just under ten minutes left, a scramble in the area ended when the ball came out to Orteman who fired the ball home from the edge of the area. In the last minute Recreativo goalkeeper Sorrentino went forward for a corner and was caught out as Racing broke away to score through Smolarek.

Ten man Zaragoza could not hold on to the lead and ended up with a 1-1 draw at home to Almeria. Gabi was sent off after 61 minutes when the score was still 0-0, but Zaragoza took the lead soon after when Oliveira headed home Matuzalems corner. Zaragoza held on until the 89th minute when another corner, this time from Almerias Man?? was headed in by Negredo.

In the other games this weekend Athletic Bilbao beat Getafe 1-0 with a goal from Joseba Etxeberria, Mallorca got a 1-0 victory over Deportivo thanks to a direct free kick goal from Arango, and Betis eased their problems with a 0-1 win at Osasuna with a goal from Mark Gonzalez.

Top Six: Real Madrid 62 points, Barcelona 58, Villarreal 56, Atletico Madrid 50, Racing Santander 47, Sevilla 45.

Bottom Six: Deportivo 34, Zaragoza 33, Valladolid 32, Recreativo 32, Murcia 26, Levante 19.

Top Scorers: Luis Fabiano 22, Raul 15, Diego Milito 15, G??iza 15, Forlan 13.

Also See: Can the Real Madrid-Barcelona stranglehold ever be broken?

Valencia have been a thorn in the side of Barcelona for a while, and they're very hard for anyone to beat at the Mestalla. At the Camp Nou, they've had less luck. While Barcelona haven't been able to win in their two games away to Valencia this season, they have won at home in the Copa Del Rey and defeated Valencia at home in each of the last three seasons.

Both teams played mid-week in European competition, with Barcelona playing their first team in Champions League and Valencia sitting a few players in Europa League. All of Ever Banega, Miguel, Adil Rami and Roberto Soldado were left on the bench on Thursday and should start against Barcelona.

Gerard Pique was very poor against Osasuna last week, but should keep his place from that game in the Barcelona starting XI. He did not start mid-week in the Champions League. Xavi will likely be in the 18, but will not start as he recovers from a calf injury. Both Daniel Alves and Javier Mascherano are suspended. Valencia played two strikers last week, and are likely to take Aritz Aduriz out of their lineup for a midfield player.
Barcelona vs. Valencia
Game Date/Time: Sunday, February 19, 3:30 p.m. ET, 9:30 p.m. local

Venue: Camp Nou, Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain

TV: ESPN Deportes (USA), Sky Sports 1 (UK)

Online: ESPN3

For more on the Blaugranas, head over to FC Barcelona blog Barca Blaugranes.
